Italy-Japan Workshop is an initiative, sponsored by the Embassy of Italy in Japan, in which a specific theme related to robotics is discussed and analysed involving the governments, universities, research centres, and industries of both countries. Italy-Japan Workshop has been organised since 2001 by Waseda University, of the most important scientific partners for Italy, with the collaboration of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. In this event, Italian and Japanese distinguished speakers share their experiences and their visions, while a selected number of Japanese and Italian companies are invited to show and demonstrate their products.

In this special year, we commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italo-Japanese diplomatic relations. The workshop will arranged in two days, consisting in a technical session of invited speakers during the first day, and in a final session aimed to a general audience, followed by a public exhibition, in the second day.

The theme of this year is relationship between robotics and the arts.  Both visual arts (such as painting and sculpture) and performing arts (such as  music, fashion, dance and theatre) are fields that can benefit from robotics and find new ways of expression. While artistic production has been an invaluable asset through the centuries in both Italy and Japan, the world of robotics, intertwining with the world of arts, can open new fascinating perspectives.
